Compact Surfaces
If you are thinking about getting compact surface countertops for your home then you should know some basic fundamental elements that go into play with this countertop option. The main thing that separates compact surface countertops and other countertop options from one another is the durability of compact surfaces. Particle sintering is a manufacturing process involving the pressing, drying, and the heating of refined powders down to a temperature that is below the melting point which allows the particles to then fuse together. The end result is a really hard countertop with incredible performance under both extreme and normal circumstances.
What Makes A Compact Surface Different From The Rest?
UV Light Resistant • Resistant To Scratches • Lower Thermal Expansion • Infinite Designs • Stability Of Color • Scorch & Heat Proof • Impermeability • Thickness Consistency • Resistant To High Abrasion • Large-Slab Format
Compact Surfaces Countertops Are UV Light Resistant
No matter the type of countertop you choose, they all will be affected when exposed to ultra-violet light. Solid surface and quartz materials are created using resin binders that are petroleum based. These resins are degraded X UV-light and will result in the material’s color to fade-off. Most marble and granite slabs, in fact, have some resin-surface treatments which are affected by the UV-light. On the contrary, compact surface countertops do not have resins. They are also created using high heat making them unaffected to the exposure of UV-light regardless of the number of years of exposure.
Scorch And Heat Proof
It is understood by many that most countertops can be damaged if and when exposed to scorching and heat. Surface treatments and resin binders can make granite and quartz vulnerable to damages caused by heat exposure. Still, granite countertops can handle larger amounts of heat than solid surfaces or quartz can. Unfortunately, none of the following materials can handle touching hot skillets without experiencing some damage. Our ultra-compact surface countertops can handle the intense heat coming from a blow-torch without fading or even scorching.
Resistant To Scratches
If you are looking for a highly scratch resistant countertop than you may want to consider quartz countertops. A countertops option that is strong and much harder than quartz is the ultra-compact surface countertop. Not quite proof of scratches since diamonds can, in fact, leave traces and marks on them but they should be fine with normal or common uses. One thing we do not recommend doing is placing a cutting board from the same material because it will scratch the countertop. The chances of repairing this damage are slim to none.
Proof Of Stains
Not like marble and granite, quartz and ultra-compact surface countertops are nonporous which leaves little to no room for the seeping of chemicals or permeating into the material; causing stains to occur. You should use polyurethane sealant to seal marble, granite, travertine, & all other natural stones to prevent staining. Once the application of the sealant is done, the natural stone then becomes nonporous against H20. The sealer, however, will not stand a chance against the most basic household cleaners as it will definitely create stains on your natural stone. Resins that are found in quartz, allow them to be nonporous yet when they are exposed to any household cleaner, the stains will occur. The most common quartz countertop ruiner is, yes, you guessed it, nail polish remover!
Thickness Consistency
Marble, Quartz, and Granite slabs that are used for the purpose of creating flooring or countertops may be quite thick from 1 end to the other. As a result, it is hard to seam this kind of material together especially when 2 different natural stones are seamed with one another. Many steps during the process of finishing such as grinding, cutting, polishing etc. are important once the main process of manufacturing has already created the slab. The process of extrusion is used when creating ultra-compact surface countertops only calls for a few steps. This will then result in the thickness of the slab. This is an important process if you are wanting an installation that is successful!
